I note that the Councillors for Eggborough ward have contacted you with a brief message about eco-towns and specifically about the proposal for a development of 6-15,000 houses – “Willow Green” at Eggborough.

You may already have been aware of this from last weeks press coverage in the Selby papers, but if not then I am able to provide more details to your next parish council meeting or a special one if you choose to call one.

In addition, the Osgoldcross Forum have arranged a special ...

Recreational Land Debate

I am posting this message on the Whitley Blog to express my views on the proposed recreational area. My main concern regarding these plans relates to the probable increase in anti-social behaviour this proposal will lead to. I see little (if any) signs of such behaviour in the village at present, but this sort of development will change this - take a look at the area surrounding Eggborough Village Hall, or read the story in last weeks Pontefract & Castleford Express about a similar development ...

Proposed New Town, Eggborough/Kellington/Kellingley

Below is the timetable to decision that we have been given – as you can see it is extremely short. The Government want ten of them. We do not know if, when Hazel Blears makes her announcement, in a few weeks time, whether she will name the final ten or will reduce the current fifty or so applicants to say twenty for further consultation.

If Parish Councils wish to have a say before the DCLG prepare their recommendation that we will have ...

Indian Take-away

Simon Humphrey writes...

Any fan of Indian food will appreciate the horror of turning up to your favourite restaurant to find it has closed down!

This happened to us at the Flavour of India in Askern. Even though we knew it was going to be refurbished at some time, it was still a shock. Happily the place has re-opened and we were chuffed to be at the opening night with other locals from Whitley to enjoy some traditional food and a glass or two.

The place was packed and looks great. ...

Dave Broadbent has presented his vision of the church conversion into a village community hall to Whitley villagers at a meeting on 4th December 2007 in All Saints Church Whitley. Dave is now looking for people to volunteer and join a committee to oversee the project and work with both the PCC and Selby Council to make this happen. If you have some free time to join this committee - please contact Dave on dave_broadbent@btinternet.com

Dave is also looking for tradesmen who could donate ...

Sue White of Whitley Parish about ....Wind Farm

Sue White of Whitley Parish Council states...

Unfortunately I was unable to go to the meeting about the proposed windfarm. I think we should do our bit in the fight against global warming, and I am in principle supportive of having one locally. Also, I think the turbines are quite attractive! (There are some scenic ones on the way to Skipton).

I think we should use the opportunity of having a windfarm in our back yard to negotiate other benefits for the communities in Whitley and Eggborough. ...

Eric Beechey - a Kellington Parish Councillor says...

I attended the wind farm presentation on Monday. I went with a completely open mind and I have to say I was extremely impressed by the whole set up.

There is no doubt that something positive has to be done in order to combat global warming and ANY positive contribution to that end has to be taken seriously. To say that the Selby area makes a large enough contribution to the nation's energy pool seems to me to be very negative statement ...

Statement on proposed wind farms from Councillors John and Mary McCartney

Selby District Councillors for the Eggborough Ward

We are strongly in favour of reducing Britain 's CO2 emissions and that means finding alternative means of generating electricity. Although we would also like to see more done to reduce demand, ie why does the Selby by-pass have to be lit up like Blackpool illuminations throughout the night?

But, we are sceptical about wind generation.

Personally we think ...
